Piano
Lessons
With
the goal of teaching musicianship, emphasis is placed
on developing skills with lasting value,
i.e. listening, interpretation, technique, artistry, ear training, theory
and practicing. Students will experience a
variety of musical styles including classical, contemporary, jazz, folk
and pop. Private lessons are available for
both children and adults, beginner through early
advanced levels.
Lessons are 30-minutes/week, unless other
arrangements are made. Students are expected to practice
daily as recommended by the teacher,
and should have a piano or full-size keyboard available
for practice. All lessons are taught at
Susan's Music House, 116 Rutgers Avenue, in
Fort Collins.

all the expected lessons of the month is due at
the first lesson of the month. Excused absences will be
prorated into the next month. There will be no proration, refund
or makeup lesson for unexcused absences (if a student
or parent forgets to come and/or neglects to call me).
Pay by check, cash, Visa or Mastercard.
Books, Music and Other
Materials
Students are responsible for the costs of books and
materials, including method books and supplementary materials
such as sheet music, flash cards, etc. I will get these
for you and expect timely reimbursement from you. Students
are welcome to bring in their own books, which may be
used for the lesson if the material is appropriate to
the student's level.
Recitals
and Performances
Students
are encouraged to participate in various recitals during
the year. These include a Holiday Open House in
December, a formal recital in the spring, and an end-of-summer recital
at a local nursing home. Students are never required to perform,
but attendance at recitals is expected.
Group Lessons Beginning in
October, Group Lessons will be offered during the second
week of each month. During this week, students
will attend an hour-long Group Lesson instead of their
regular lesson. Groups are assigned according to
age and level of study. If a student is unable to
attend the Group Lesson, a private lesson time will be
arranged.
Group
lessons have so many benefits, including a
non-threatening performance venue, connection with
peers, opportunities for ensemble play, a great way to
learn theory and music history, and incentive to
practice.
Student Achievement
Day Student Achievement Day (StAD), an event
sponsored by the Fort Collins Music Teachers'
Association in early spring, is an opportunity for young
piano students to perform for another piano teacher and
receive feedback. It is a positive, exciting
experience for the student and participation is strongly
encouraged. The fee for this event is $20 per
student. Detailed information will be sent home in
January.
Holidays
Generally speaking, no lessons will
be taught on holidays including Labor Day, Thanksgiving,
Crhistmas, New Year's Day, MLK Day, President's Day,
Good Friday and Memorial Day. Lessons will be taught on
the various and
sundry "no school" days which are not associated with
a holiday. School breaks (Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring) will be observed according
to the PSD school schedule. If you need other days
off, such as vactions, religious holidays or other school breaks,
please let me know at the beginning of the
month.
I
believe that good communication between teacher, parents
and student is the key to a successful piano experience.
If you have any questions, concerns, comments or kudos,
please let me know.
